Only 6% of the children in these orphanages are actually orphans according to a study by Save the Children, UNICEF and Social Services. Many of these children are increasingly being placed in the care of these homes by parents who cannot afford to provide them with an education, food, or shelter.

Bookwallah recently created an Advisory Council for Africa expansion. Council members include: Hilda Annafi of Nanny’s Place Pre-School in Ghana, Lou Savage of Lexterra Strategies, Najeem Dayisi of Caterpillar Inc., and Riyaz Adamjee of Teletrac Navman Group.
Bookwallah is seeking to establish a greater presence in Ghana and has a trusted person on the ground who can spearhead our efforts.
Other countries within Africa will be reviewed by this team as well. If you are interested in joining the Advisory Council or helping our initiative in Ghana or Africa, please contact us at contact@bookwallah.org.

Challenge &Bookwallah Organization’s Role
UNICEF estimates that there are over 370,000 orphans in Guatemala. The poverty level is also considerably high in Guatemala. Approximately 70 percent of people in Guatemala live below the poverty level and as a result, children sometimes find themselves abandoned, forced into child labor or victims of neglect and abuse.
We are excited to announce that Lissette Herin, of Guatemalan descent, partner/owner of MOTR GRAFX, is creating and leading a team expanding to Guatemala.
She has witnessed the situation among children in Guatemala firsthand and has taken up this cause as her own. We aim to raise an additional $25k to build two new projects in Guatemala for sex-trafficked and indigenous children who live in orphanages.
